Successful study into children's skills extended

A successful LJMU project has been awarded significant funding to examine the influence of the pre-school home learning environment on children's maths and literacy skills.

The award of £168,000 from the Nuffield Foundation will enable the team to follow a sample of children through Key Stage 1.

It follows a successful two-year study which followed those children from pre-school to the end of reception, examining the influence of their home learning environment, language and cognitive abilities on their later number skills.

You can find out more about the project – conducted by Dr Fiona Simmons, Dr Anne-Marie Adams and Dr Elena Soto-Calvo from the School of Natural Sciences and Psychology – on this page.
